Terry founded Doherty Associates in September 1991 with the driving aim of making technology work for business. Over the past 30 years, he has grown the company into a highly regarded IT consultancy and services provider with a global client base and a team of well over 100 experts working around the clock to deliver hard-working and transformative technology solutions.
Terry is known in the industry for his entrepreneurial nature. His approach is always to view technology projects at an infrastructure level, seeking to first understand the inner workings of a company, what is most important to them and their people, and the goals of the business. Only then will he draw on his own experience and the expertise of colleagues to determine which technologies to utilise.
After 30 years, Terry’s passion for the industry remains undimmed and his enthusiasm and candour continue to inspire both his colleagues and clients.
Andrea Haywood
Chief Financial Officer
Andrea joined Doherty Associates in 2021 and is now responsible for driving excellence and value from our team. Core to this task is working with the board on their strategy and growth plans by delivery of best practice insights.
Andrea brings over 20 years’ experience of working in major blue-chip corporations to the team, both in IT services and engineering consulting. Her more recent focus has been on high growth SMEs and immediately before joining us, she held the position of Finance and Commercial Director at a City-based technology firm where she played an instrumental role in returning the business to profit and top-line growth in just two years. Andrea is a CIMA qualified accountant and also holds a B.Eng. (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering, having started her career on British Airways’ undergraduate sponsorship scheme.
Sam Lumb
Chief Commercial Officer
Sam joined Doherty Associates in 2022, attracted by our culture of innovation, service excellence and industry-leading client renewals. He is excited to represent a service portfolio that has truly evolved to serve the needs of today’s business and IT leaders.
Before joining us, Sam was European New Business Sales Director at Ensono, where his team supported enterprises across multiple industry verticals and service offerings. In his five years with the company, Ensono experienced a period of successful growth before being sold to KKR in 2021. Sam had arrived at Ensono through its 2016 acquisition of Attenda, where he was New Business Sales Director and a member of the senior leadership team. Prior to that, Sam worked for IBM Software Group and IBM Business Consulting Services Group having commenced his IT career within the IBM Graduate programme.
Caleb Mills
Professional Services Director
Caleb joined Doherty Associates back in 2007, bringing invaluable insight from his previous roles as both a field engineer and a consultant.
He has always been focused on business outcomes and user adoption and has been a driving force in the take-up of cloud and hybrid solutions, both internally at Doherty Associates and across our client base.
With over 25 years of professional experience to draw upon, he is well-placed to ensure that we choose, develop, and recommend the very best products and solutions for our clients. With a keen focus on cyber security and risk, Caleb often engages with organisations looking to understand and improve their cyber security posture.
Owen Morris
Chief Technology Officer
Owen is responsible for Doherty Associates’ technological vision and strategy, ensuring alignment of technology with our clients’ business goals.
He is the architect behind our robust IT infrastructure, championing innovation and overseeing the integration of cutting-edge technologies across all departments. His leadership is pivotal in maintaining our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications, reflecting our commitment to quality management and information security.
Under his guidance, our Microsoft cloud practice has flourished, with a focus on Microsoft 365, Azure and Power Platform, achieving our Microsoft Solutions Partner designations. Integrating AI into technology strategy is a key focus.
Owen’s wide-ranging expertise extends to strategic consultancy, enterprise architecture, project execution, and delivery, ensuring that our clients receive comprehensive and forward-thinking solutions.
Prior to Doherty Associates, Owen amassed over a decade of experience at Logica and Capgemini. He also holds master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science.
James Mitchell
Director
James has been an integral part of Doherty Associates since year one.
Having studied Computing at University, James worked first in software development before moving into support and then sales roles with several leading technology providers. He then joined Terry in the early days of Doherty Associates and is now a director of the company.
Together with his fellow board members, James is responsible for determining the company’s strategic objectives and policies. He also manages some of the company’s longest-standing clients.
With his many years of experience, both in the sector and in relationship-building, James truly understands that organisations want their IT to be a business enabler. To this end, he gives the time and attention necessary to get under the skin of his clients’ objectives, before making it his personal priority to ensure they receive the level of support that will help them to achieve their goals.
Gareth Preece
Chief Operating Officer
As the Chief Operating Officer of Doherty Associates since 2022, Gareth oversees our professional and managed services functions.
He plays a critical role in evolving our product and service portfolio and works closely with our clients to help shape and evolve their IT environments.
Gareth brings extensive experience from his previous roles as a board member at Wavex Technology, where he built and led the professional and managed services teams, and as an independent consultant advising organisations on cloud infrastructure and Modern Workplace solutions.
He also served as the Chief Technology Officer for Clyde & Co, a large and fast-growing international law firm, where he led the globalisation and streamlining of IT services and operating standards.
Gareth has a BA (Hons) in Business Information Systems and over 20 years of experience in developing ITIL service delivery functions.
Han How Sim
Regional Director
Han How joined Doherty Associates in 2010. He recently took on the role of Regional Director of our Kuala Lumpur office, having played a linchpin role in a number of our technical teams.
Han How now oversees our 24/7 Service Desk operation in Kuala Lumpur and is responsible for managing both our technical and non-technical teams. He has been closely involved in the evolution of the Service Desk from the initial setup in 2013. He continues to work closely with the Technical Team to ensure that we provide a high-quality service round the clock. Han How is a firm believer in constantly learning and getting to grips with emerging technologies as evidenced by an admirable set of skills and certifications.
